Why Unique Travels?

Updated: May 15, 2019

I have been wondering how to start this first blog post. What story to tell you. How much to share and what is really relevant.

I started thinking about Unique Travels sometime in 2017, 6 months after my first one was born. It was time to think 'back to work', and I wasn't tremendously excited. I used to do business consultancy for hospitality. Quite an interesting job, meeting fine people, talking mostly about food all day. But I was calling it a job, and it didn't make me jump for joy.

To help me on this journey, I worked with a career coach to imagine my next move, understand my passions, values and skills.

Passion for travel, endless curiosity, planner at heart and love to create experiences...Unique Travels was born.

In the past 10 years +, I have travelled in many places, and still have a lot to explore. A long trip through Latin America, trekking, road-tripping, cooking with locals, exploring markets gave me the first taste for long adventurous trips.

Trekking the Cañón Del Colca

A honeymoon around the world confirmed I not only enjoyed living it, I loved planning it. My challenge was to combine adventure, luxury and unique experiences. How could I plan fast and slow trains, sea planes, buggy, treks, food, parties, cultural shocks, 3 different continents, 7 countries over 9 weeks? Challenge accepted...

Cycling through Beijing

When I am not planning our next adventures, it's about parties.

The venue, the food, the decor, the drinks, the cocktails, the music, the rooms, the sleeping arrangements, the games, the gifts, ... I lose myself in the details.

Our wedding party

The last piece of the puzzle is now here with two tiny humans joining us on every adventure. We are back from 6 weeks travelling around South East Asia with a 2 year old and 6 week old. How do you combine the logistics and the desire for adventure. That's the fun challenge.

On this blog I will be sharing the unique stuff I have experienced and organised. This will not be a place where I review hotels, restaurants or airlines (read I won't be naming anyone).

I hope you enjoy following the stories...
